Offers a space for healing, growth, and connection

Counselling offers a space for healing, growth, and connection. It is a place where you can begin to understand yourself more deeply, work through what has been weighing on you, and reconnect with a sense of direction and purpose in your life. Over time, therapy can support lasting change in how you relate to your inner world, how you experience connection with others, and how you navigate the challenges life brings.

Trauma-Informed Care That Meets You Where You Are

My approach to therapy is grounded in trauma-informed care, which means paying close attention to safety, pace, and the unique way each person experiences their difficulties. When we first meet together, the focus is on understanding your experience and what you are hoping to change, so we can begin to shape a direction for our work that supports your goals.

I work with people who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Some are navigating the impact of past experiences, while others are dealing with current stress, anxiety, or relational challenges. Whatever brings you here, therapy is a space where we can make sense of what feels difficult to carry alone, and begin to create movement where things may have felt stuck.

Support for Grief, Depression, Anxiety, and Life’s Challenges

Many people begin therapy during periods of emotional difficulty, stress, or uncertainty, when life feels heavier or more complex than it used to. This can show up in different ways, including feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure of how to cope with what is happening internally or in daily life.

Below are some of the areas people often seek support for in therapy.

Anxiety

When anxiety is present, the mind can feel constantly alert, scanning for what might go wrong and pulling you into future worries that are hard to switch off. This often makes it difficult to settle in your body or stay with what is happening right now, leaving a sense of tension and internal urgency.

Explore

Depression

Depression tends to move in the opposite direction, where energy drops, emotions feel distant or muted, and even simple tasks can feel heavy or out of reach, as if life is happening at a slight distance. Over time, this can also affect motivation, hope, and connection to things that once felt meaningful

Burnout and Workplace Stress

Burnout often arrives quietly, a creeping exhaustion that builds as demands outpace energy, or it can follow a sudden surge of pressure or conflict that leaves you feeling drained and mentally overwhelmed.

Explore

Trauma and PTSD

Some experiences continue to affect you long after they are over. You might notice feeling on edge, overwhelmed, or shut down in ways that are hard to predict or control. At times, your reactions may feel intense or confusing, especially when part of you knows you are safe but your body responds as if you are not.

Explore

Relationships and Interpersonal Concerns

Something may feel off in how you relate to others, whether that shows up as tension, distance, or a sense of not being fully understood. You might notice patterns that repeat or find yourself unsure how to express what you need without things becoming strained.

Explore

Grief and Loss

Grief can follow a death, but it can also come with other losses such as changes in relationships, health, or direction. It can bring waves of sadness, longing, anger, or numbness, and at times it may feel like there is no clear place for those feelings to go.

Explore

Life Direction, Academic Stress, and Creative Blocks

There are times when it feels difficult to move forward, even when you want to. You might feel stuck, caught in cycles of procrastination, second guess your decisions, or struggle to follow through on things that matter to you.

Explore

Sleep Difficulties and Insomnia

Sleep difficulties, including insomnia, nightmares, or frequent awakenings, can make it hard to feel rested and can affect your mood, focus, and energy. You may find it challenging to fall asleep, stay asleep, or fully relax at night, and over time these patterns can create worry or tension that makes sleep even harder.

Explore

Gaming, Social Media, and Digital Overuse

Spending time online can be a way to relax, connect, or take a break, but it can also become difficult to step away. You might find yourself returning to it to manage stress, avoid difficult feelings, or fill time, even when it starts to affect other areas of your life.

Explore

Gambling Concerns

Gambling can begin as entertainment but may become harder to control over time. There can be a strong pull to continue, especially when trying to recover losses or manage stress or emotion. This can create a cycle that feels difficult to interrupt and may lead to financial strain or a sense of shame.

Approaches That Support Your Healing

Compassionate care is supported by a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Each method offers different ways of working with thoughts, emotions, body responses, and relationships, depending on your needs. Online Therapy That Reaches You Wherever You Are in Ontario

Accessing support should not depend on where you live or how close you are to a clinic. With online therapy available across Ontario, you can connect with professional care from wherever feels most comfortable for you, whether that is your home, office, or another private space.

Research has shown that therapist guided virtual counselling can be just as effective as in person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, and trauma related difficulties¹. For many people, being in a familiar environment also helps reduce barriers to starting and staying engaged in therapy.

Virtual counselling offers flexibility that can make it easier to maintain consistency over time. Without travel or commute demands, sessions can fit more naturally into work schedules, caregiving responsibilities, and day to day life. This can be especially helpful during periods when energy, motivation, or capacity feels limited.

Online therapy also supports access across a wide range of communities in Ontario. This includes major urban centres such as Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Brampton, and Hamilton, as well as mid-sized cities like Kitchener, London, Kingston, and Windsor. It also extends to northern and rural regions such as Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, and surrounding smaller communities where access to consistent mental health care may be more limited.

Meet Elizabeth Boom,
Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of experience supporting individuals and families through emotional, relational, and life challenges. Since beginning my clinical work in 2012, I have continued to deepen my practice through ongoing professional learning in trauma therapy, somatic approaches, grief, anxiety, sleep, relational dynamics, and integrative mind-body approaches to wellbeing.

In my work, I focus on creating a space that is warm, collaborative, and attuned to your needs. We slow things down together and pay attention to what you are experiencing in a way that helps make sense of what may feel stuck, overwhelming, or difficult to put into words. Over time, this process can support greater clarity, steadiness, and a more workable relationship with what you are carrying.

Outside of sessions, I spend time in nature, including camping, and value creativity, reading, painting, and learning new things. I share my home with my dog and two cats, and I also make space for time with friends, laughter, and reflection. These parts of my life help me stay grounded and present in my work.
